5 quick & easy tips for a more efficient energy system
- Change your air filter regularly – Changing your air filter on your hvac system is the equivalent of changing your oil on your car. We recommend changing the filter at least every 3 months, but once a month from May to September. A dirty filter results in less air flow requiring more energy to get the same cooling effect then if you had a clean filter. Try Cool Master’s filter changing plan for Small Business.
- Tune up your HVAC equipment at least once per year - Cleaning your evaporator and condenser coils, leveling freon levels & cleaning and adjusting blower components cause your system to operate more efficiently and last longer before replacement is necessary. Sign up for an HVAC Check-Up.
- Install a programmable thermostat - Programmable thermostats allow you set your house temperature to optimal energy settings while you are away at work. Prior to you getting home the AC kicks up to make sure you are cool when you walk in the door. This can make a huge difference in your electrical bill. Our favorite programmable thermostat is the Amana ComfortNET Communicating Control System
- Seal your heating and cooling ducts – Poor performing ducts literally mean you are blowing money out of the roof of the house. If your ducts are not sealed properly it can cause as much as a 20 percent drop in the amount of air flow being delivered as it should. This causes high energy bills and difficulty making the house comfortable no matter what the thermostat is set on. We offer duct inspections as a part of our HVAC tune-up.
- Consider replacing your unit with a high efficiency unit – If your system is more than 10 years old then you can’t have a high efficiency unit. In the past 10 years engineers have discovered how to cool your house using less energy than what was thought possible. New multispeed 16+ SEER rated units can make a huge impact in your utility bills, freeing up cash flow to do whatever you would like.
Call Today to schedule your AC System’s Annual Check-Up. We highly recommend you take advantage of this from February to April or October to November. During the Summer our phone literally never stops ringing and it will take us much longer to complete your inspection.
